A House Energy and Commerce panel is set to discuss draft bills that would reform EPA’s Brownfields Program to prioritize energy and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The Subcommittee on Environment will hold a hearing Wednesday to scrutinize four discussion drafts that would overhaul the popular program, which provides grants and loans to help communities remediate dilapidated former industrial sites.
“This hearing will provide the opportunity to discuss legislation that would strengthen and modernize the Brownfields Program to cut red tape, protect our environment, and support the innovative use of these sites,” E&C Chair Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) and subcommittee Chair Gary Palmer (R-Ala.) said in a joint statement.
Republican-led discussion drafts contain proposals meant to attract large-scale developers, like expanding the list of eligible entities to include private, for-profit corporations and offering individual loans and loan guarantees.
