Transportation and Infrastructure Chair Sam Graves had been targeting April 29 for the highly anticipated reauthorization.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will not mark up the surface transportation reauthorization bill this week and is now targeting a date in May, a spokesperson for the panel said Friday.

Action on the legislation, also known as the highway bill, has been repeatedly delayed amid wider concerns that a reauthorization may not be completed by Sept. 30, when the current bill expires. Text for a new bill has not yet been released by either chamber.

A spokesperson for T&I, Justin Harclerode, said that instead of the April 29 date Chair Sam Graves (R-Mo.) had been eyeing, the panel is looking at a markup some time in May. Graves and ranking member Rick Larsen (D-Wash.) have been haggling over the top-line number, among other issues.

“Negotiations are ongoing, and a markup date is still TBD, but targeting a May markup,” Harclerode told POLITICO.
