The House approved legislation Monday to increase scrutiny of Department of Energy spending. It also cleared a bill to improve wildfire forecasting.
Ohio Republican Rep. Mike Carey’s H.R. 1069, the ”Clean Energy Demonstration Transparency Act,” would require new reporting on projects at the Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations. It passed by voice vote.
Lawmakers created the office in the bipartisan infrastructure law and have given it more than $25 billion. The bill would require reports to Congress on spending and participating entities.
Carey, during floor debate, said the legislation “will give Americans confidence their tax dollars are being used wisely and in the pursuit of energy independence.”
