House lawmakers will review six mining-related bills this week, including one bipartisan but contentious proposal that could expand development on public lands.
The House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, led by Rep. Pete Stauber (R-Minn.), is slated to take up H.R. 1366 from Nevada Reps. Mark Amodei, a Republican, and Steven Horsford, a Democrat.
The “Mining Regulatory Clarity Act of 2025,” which environmental groups and tribes oppose, would allow a company to establish mining claims for lands where they deposit tailings — the waste material from mineral extraction — within an approved plan of operations.
Those companies would not have to first establish valuable minerals underground, as is currently required under a 2019 federal court ruling.
