House lawmakers will discuss the Clean Water Act and permitting issues at a hearing Tuesday that could shed light on Republicans’ environmental priorities this year.
The hearing before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment will feature two state environmental regulators — one from Oklahoma and one from New Jersey — as well as two industry witnesses.
They hail from steel producer Nucor, on behalf of the National Association of Manufacturers, and a representative for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
The hearing is the first since Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) became chair of the subcommittee last month. Collins is a conservative businessman who has said he would like to use his post to “[rein] in the Army Corps of Engineers,” expand U.S. ports and reduce regulations. He joined Congress in 2023.
