House lawmakers on the Energy and Commerce Committee will examine potential loopholes and vulnerabilities in the cybersecurity and physical protections of the U.S. power grid at a hearing this week.
Republican leaders said the Energy Subcommittee hearing will give “members the chance to hear from experts who understand the realities of grid security threats and who can inform Congress about what is necessary to secure the electric grid.”
“Ensuring that our energy infrastructure, including the electric grid, can provide reliable power is one of our committee’s top priorities,” said full committee Chair Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) and subcommittee Chair Bob Latta (R-Ohio).
The discussion could offer a rare chance for bipartisan engagement on a committee that has been mired in partisan fights this year. Democrats have sharply criticized Republicans’ focus on rolling back energy efficiency regulations amid high consumer costs, while Republicans argue their agenda is aimed at lowering energy bills.
