House Republicans will talk through their 2026 legislative plans at their closed-door retreat Tuesday, according to three people granted anonymity to share the agenda for a private meeting.
The daylong event at the Kennedy Center — which was recently renamed by the board of the performing arts center to include the name of President Donald Trump — will be a chance for members of the Republican Conference to huddle for the first time since the holiday recess about how they’ll position themselves to keep their majority in the midterms.
Trump is expected to address the group at the start of the Tuesday morning session, largely to tout party wins and rally lawmakers ahead of a pivotal election year.
There will be conversations about how the GOP will tackle lingering health care policy and cost-of-living issues before the midterms. Trump’s top pollster advised a group of House Republicans in a recent closed-door briefing — which included Speaker Mike Johnson — to focus more on affordability ahead of the November elections, such as housing.
