The House Judiciary Committee will vote Thursday on a proposal to ease the legal landscape for the data centers that support artificial intelligence technologies.

The legislation comes as President Donald Trump pushes Congress to pass new laws on AI and data centers, including preventing ratepayers for footing the bill for their energy needs.

H.R. 8037, the “Protect American AI Act,” from Rep. Michael Baumgartner (R-Wash.), would limit the federal legal challenges to halt data center permits.

It would allow permits for the AI infrastructure to remain in place even when environmental reviews for the project are challenged by litigation.
