House lawmakers voted Wednesday to create a Bureau of Energy Security and Diplomacy as they marked up a roster of State Department bills.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee approved language in H.R. 5248, from Rep. Young Kim (R-Calif.), that would create a new office dedicated to promoting energy exports and managing sanctions tied to oil, gas and other natural resources.
“The Bureau of Energy Security and Diplomacy will expand our efforts to diversify critical mineral supply chains and increase opportunities for America’s energy producers,” Kim said during the markup.
Lawmakers described the move as reviving the State’s Bureau of Energy Resources, which disappeared under Secretary of State Marcio Rubio’s departmental reorganization.
