The House approved legislation Thursday to address concerns with grid reliability, cross-border infrastructure and a Department of Energy advisory body.
Republican leaders framed the legislation, all from the House Energy and Commerce Committee, as essential to bolstering reliability and regulatory certainty, while Democrats warned the bills would undercut clean energy deployment.
Each bill, however, received at least some support from the minority, including Democratic Reps. Henry Cuellar of Texas, Marie Glusenkamp-Perez of Washington and Don Davis of North Carolina.
H.R. 1047, the “Guaranteeing Reliability through the Interconnection of Dispatchable Power (GRID Power) Act,” from Rep. Troy Balderson (R-Ohio), would allow energy projects deemed “dispatchable” by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to bypass long interconnection queues. The bill passed 216-206, with five Democrats in support.
