The House passed the compromise defense policy bill Wednesday after GOP leaders managed to suppress a conservative revolt.
The fiscal 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, a largely bipartisan product loaded with energy and environment provisions, passed 312-112. It now heads to the Senate, where it is expected to pass next week.
“This is a strong bipartisan bill that delivers for our warfighters and deters our adversaries,” said House Armed Services Chair Mike Rogers (R-Ala.).
The measure earned support from both sides of the aisle, but lost some backing from conservatives and progressives who protested that the bill went too far on certain culture-war provisions.
