The House approved legislation Friday morning intended to speed up approvals for interstate natural gas pipelines.

The “Improving Interagency Coordination for Pipeline Reviews Act,” H.R. 3668, from Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), passed 213-184.

Sponsors say the bill would empower the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to accelerate pipeline reviews by making FERC the lead agency in charge of pipeline approvals and promoting collaboration among agencies in considering permits.

Hudson said on the House floor that his bill “would guarantee we protect the environment, ensure we protect public health and lower energy costs.”
