Lawmakers will question energy company leaders and a top administration official working on critical minerals to discuss technological leaps in the mining sector.

Thomas Lograsso, who directs the Department of Energy’s Critical Materials Innovation Hub at the Ames National Laboratory, will appear before the House Science, Space and Technology Subcommittee on Energy alongside executives and academics focused on mining.

Republican Rep. Brian Babin of Texas, who chairs the full committee, said the hearing will evaluate next-generation energy production, subsurface science and technology, and critical minerals innovation in the United States. Lawmakers, he said, will also assess the federal government’s role in research and development.

“Advancing next-generation energy technologies and securing access to critical minerals are essential to strengthening America’s economy and national security,” Babin said. “I look forward to hearing from our witnesses as we examine how to support innovation in these areas and ensure the United States remains a global leader.”
