House Republicans blasted EPA at a hearing Tuesday, saying the agency overstepped its enforcement power during the Biden administration.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Federal Law Enforcement dug into EPA’s crackdown on polluters and vowed to rein in the agency now controlled by President Donald Trump.
EPA is facing deep budget cuts from GOP lawmakers while droves of environmental lawyers have left federal service since Trump’s return to office, which former officials warn could hamstring the agency’s handling of such cases.
Nevertheless, Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.), the subcommittee’s chair, said at the hearing that EPA had abused its power, chasing after small businesses with raids by enforcement personnel. Such actions have attracted ire from Republicans.
