House Republicans are set to kill three Biden-era land management plans this week, picking up where they left off before the August recess when they abruptly left town amid internal drama over Jeffrey Epstein.
Critics say the three resource management plans — in Alaska, North Dakota and Montana — represent the Democrats’ effort to limit development on public land. The GOP is using the rule-busting Congressional Review Act in response.
“North Dakotans saw the Biden administration’s plan for what it was: A backdoor attempt to shut down responsible energy development on federal lands,” said Rep. Julie Fedorchak (R-N.D.) about one of the plans. “It would crush coal production, close off millions of acres to leasing, and devastate jobs and communities across our state.”
Fedorchak is sponsoring H.J. Res. 105 to overturn the plan in her state. Republican Montana Reps. Troy Downing and Ryan Zinke are sponsoring H.J. Res. 104, and Rep. Nick Begich (R-Alaska) is backing H.J. Res. 106.
