The House will vote on legislation this week to address issues concerning wildfire response and water restoration projects.

The “American Water Stewardship Act,” H.R. 6422, from Rep. Pete Stauber (R-Minn.), would amend the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to continue restoration projects through 2031 around the Great Lakes, Columbia River Basin, Long Island Sound and San Francisco Bay, among others.

The legislation, co-sponsored by New York Republican Rep. Nick Lalota (R-N.Y.) and Michigan Democratic Reps. Kristen McDonald Rivet and Hillary Scholten — includes coastal water quality monitoring programs.

“The Great Lakes are not only national treasures, but economic powerhouses, and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative helps keep these waters clean and safe for all Americans to enjoy,” Stauber said when introducing the bill in December.
