How an ‘unrelated’ project got ensnared by EPA’s climate fund probe

The Tennessee nonprofit that was awarded funding to reduce lead in low-income homes is now linked to the EPA attack on the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.

For weeks, the Trump administration has attacked a $27 billion Biden-era climate program, alleging “misconduct, waste, conflicts of interest, and potential fraud.”

Now, a Memphis-based nonprofit that is not connected to that EPA program has become a target as well.

Young, Gifted & Green won a $20 million contract under the Biden administration to launch an environmental community center in Memphis. The center will train area residents in green jobs, reduce health hazards from lead and make low-income homes energy efficient.

The project is not connected to the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, the climate program that EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin has accused of financial mismanagement and waste.
