The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission unveiled a revamped website last week, rolling out a more consumer-focused design in a significant digital update.
The new mobile-friendly homepage features two prominent questions: “How Affordable Is Your Power?” and “How Reliable Is Your Power?” FERC officials say the update reflects the public’s interest in understanding how electricity costs and outages stack up. Clicking through the website brings users to interactive state-level data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
“This will be a tool for the typical American consumer to find out the two things that [are] most important to the typical American consumer,” FERC Chair Mark Christie said at the agency’s open meeting Thursday. “What am I paying for my electricity, and how reliable am I getting it?”
The update comes as federal agencies and offices, including FERC, are under increased pressure from the Trump administration to prove their worth or downsize. On the same day the new website was unveiled, Christie said the agency was on track to lose 9 percent of its staff by the year’s end and was under a hiring freeze.
