Arizona Democratic Rep. Adelita Grijalva is joining the House Natural Resources Committee, the panel her late father once chaired.

House Democrats also tapped Grijalva on Tuesday for a seat on the Education and Workforce Committee, upending the new lawmaker’s expectation that she would be unable to serve on both.

“I am so excited. I actually was not anticipating it,” Grijalva told POLITICO’s E&E News of her Natural Resources selection.

“Moving forward, I think that protecting our environment is critical for everyone, and natural resources and tribal sovereignty is a big issue in my community, and so I’m very happy to be able to serve on that committee, very honored,” she continued.
