The results of the Biden administration’s efforts to channel federal resources into disproportionately polluted communities are unknown, according to a report issued Tuesday by the Government Accountability Office.

The watchdog office, which reports to Congress, analyzed energy and environmental agencies’ progress toward implementing then-President Joe Biden’s 2021 executive order dubbed the Justice40 initiative. Biden set a goal of funneling 40 percent of certain federal benefits toward communities facing disproportionate exposure to environmental hazards.

President Donald Trump revoked the Biden initiative in one of his first executive orders after Trump retook the White House in January.

“With the termination of the initiative in January 2025, the overall results of agency actions remain unknown,” the GAO said Tuesday in a summary of its findings.
