President Donald Trump nominated American Cleaning Institute’s interim co-CEO to be the assistant administrator of EPA’s chemicals office.
If confirmed by the Senate, Douglas Troutman would take the helm of the agency’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, which regulates pesticides and chemical uses. He would be the fourth former chemical industry lobbyist in the office.
Troutman currently oversees ACI’s legal and lobbying functions as the institute’s general counsel and vice president for government affairs. Troutman has been with ACI since 2007, when it was called the Soap and Detergent Association. Prior to joining ACI, he worked for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association and as an aide for former Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.).
An EPA spokesperson applauded Trump’s nomination of Troutman as someone who “will help advance the agency’s core mission of protecting human health and the environment.”
