Interior offers details on offshore wind lease cancellation

The department has quietly posted more information on its decision halting the Carolina Long Bay project.

The Trump administration is offering details of its deal with TotalEnergies last month to end two East Coast offshore wind projects.

The Interior Department agreed last month to pay back the French energy company the nearly $1 billion it spent on leases for its New York Bight and Carolina Long Bay projects. In exchange, the company agreed to no longer pursue offshore wind in the U.S. and instead focus on its investments in oil and gas.

Democratic lawmakers have decried the lack of public information about the agreement and have asked the company to provide more details.

Last week, Interior quietly released its lease cancellation decision for the Carolina project on the Bureau of Land Management’s public database of offshore leases.
