The Interior Department is rebranding its programming celebrating this summer’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, aligning the agency with a White House initiative focused on patriotism and pomp.

The move distinguishes the department’s agenda, which will include fireworks at Mount Rushmore National Monument and historical reenactments, from a nonpartisan commission created by Congress.

The White House launched “Freedom 250” in December as “the official public-private partnership” planning the anniversary with the commission, federal agencies and the president’s task force. Recent Interior Department guidance viewed by POLITICO’S E&E News said it will be the “primary branding for all federal agencies participating in 250th activities.”

The guidance instructs staff to use the Freedom 250 logo, colors and tagline “for all new materials, websites, social media and event collateral related to the 250th anniversary.”
