The number of complaints filed with the Interior Department’s Office of Inspector General has increased since the start of the second Trump administration, agency records show.
In a new report to Congress, the OIG’s Office of Investigations said it received 660 complaints between April 1 and Sept. 30 of this year. That brought to 1,244 the total number of complaints for the yearlong period starting Oct. 1, 2024.
This amounted to roughly a 20 percent increase over the total of 1,032 complaints filed during the yearlong period starting Oct. 1, 2023. Of these, 605 came during the April-through-September reporting period.
“As always, we strive to serve the American people by helping to improve the programs and operations of the Department of the Interior,” OIG spokesperson Michael Haberstroh said Tuesday, adding that “we are proud of the oversight work that our team delivered during this semiannual reporting period.”
