The chief of staff for the Interior Department’s top watchdog will next be turning her gaze upon the Commerce Department.

Jill Baisinger, who has served as chief of staff for Interior’s Office of Inspector General since June 2022, was named Wednesday as the Commerce Department’s acting inspector general. Lawmakers praised the promotion for the Yale Law School graduate, which will take effect following a required 30-day waiting period.

“This is a win for good government and evidence of the value of strong bipartisan congressional oversight,” declared Reps. Frank Lucas (R-Okla.) and Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) in a joint statement Thursday.
