A federal judge on Friday barred the Trump administration from any further interference in the $5 billion effort to build electric vehicle charging stations on highways.
In a pointed 57-page decision, Judge Tana Lin in the Western District of Washington said the Trump administration violated the law when it paused the Biden-era National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program last year, sowing uncertainty that damaged the program’s roll out in many states.
“It is simply not how things are lawfully done,” Lin wrote.
The ruling has little immediate effect, since the Trump administration lifted its pause in the summer and most states say the funds are flowing again. But states had argued they needed a legal injunction to tamper-proof NEVI because of the Trump administration’s unpredictable actions.
