It’s the latest twist in a legal battle over the administration’s plans to make large-scale cuts to the federal workforce.

A legal challenge to the Trump administration’s federal layoff plans is still alive after a federal judge on Tuesday rejected the administration’s bid to dismiss the case.

Judge Susan Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California issued an order denying — for the most part — the administration’s request to dismiss the legal challenge.

The move from Illston, a Clinton appointee, marks the latest chapter in a legal dispute over the Trump administration’s plans for large-scale reductions in force and reorganizations across many federal agencies.
