Judge weighs Trump’s broadside against wind energy

The hearing comes as Democratic-led states sue the administration over the president’s efforts to block wind projects.

A federal court seemed skeptical Thursday that it could order a pause on President Donald Trump’s directive to block wind energy projects.

During a closely watched hearing, Judge William Young of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts questioned the grounds for issuing an order that would block Trump’s January “Wind Directive.”

The presidential action told agencies to stop issuing or renewing permits for onshore and offshore wind projects as federal agencies review their leasing and permitting practices.

And Young struggled to see how he could instruct federal agencies to do otherwise.
