The Trump administration is asking a federal appeals court to reverse a lower bench order blocking it from firing workers at EPA and other federal agencies who were targeted by efforts to shrink the federal government.

The appeal, filed Wednesday in the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, comes after a federal judge issued an order Tuesday that blocked the firing of “probationary” employees.

The Trump administration characterized the ruling as “an extraordinary interference in the Federal government’s relationship with its workforce,” in a recent court filing.
