Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar is considering a bid to be her state’s next governor — a decision that could set off a scrimmage for her seat atop the Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee and also a post in the chamber’s Democratic leadership.
Klobuchar, first elected in 2006, is said to be weighing a candidacy following incumbent Democratic Gov. Tim Walz’s decision Monday to end his campaign for reelection.
Klobuchar met with Walz about the race the day before his announcement, POLITICO reported. A person close to Klobuchar told POLITICO said she has received encouragement to run and is seriously considering it but has not decided on her plans.
In posts to her campaign-affiliated accounts on X and BlueSky on Monday afternoon, Klobuchar praised Walz but did not disclose whether she will seek to succeed him in the state’s top elected office.
