A major conservative advocacy group is launching a seven-figure campaign urging lawmakers to take up permitting reform as they return to Washington.
Americans for Prosperity, the free market group affiliated with billionaire fossil fuel executive Charles Koch and his late brother David, said Tuesday it will carry out a national tour, events with members of Congress and an advertising campaign for the initiative it’s dubbing “The Road to Prosperity.”
AFP is getting support in its endeavor from House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), who recorded a video message to help launch the campaign and promised to make permitting a priority through the fall months.
The group is focusing its messaging on artificial intelligence, arguing that the United States needs to change its permitting policies in order to produce more energy to power AI and beat out adversaries. It comes as industry advocates push Republicans and Democrats to strike a deal on an issue that has slipped away from them for decades.
