SACRAMENTO, California — A California legislator is proposing additional mortgage relief for wildfire victims after Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass made a similar request to lawmakers this week.

What happened: Assemblymember John Harabedian will introduce AB 1847, which would provide an additional two years of mortgage forbearance for those experiencing financial trouble related to the Palisades or Eaton fires.

Harabedian will also introduce AB 1842, which he says will be a first-in-the-nation bill to protect homeowners affected by natural disasters by establishing a way to pause mortgage payments when the governor or federal government declares a state of emergency.
