The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will question Douglas Weaver to fill the last open slot on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
The committee will also hold a confirmation hearing on Lee Beaman to serve on the Tennessee Valley Authority board, which has six vacancies after firings by President Donald Trump.
Weaver spent nearly two decades at the NRC. He has also worked at nuclear companies Holtec International and Westinghouse Electric.
“It seems like he’s very well qualified, having been at the NRC himself. So I’m sure I’ll have more detail of him when he comes before committee,” EPW Chair Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) said when the White House announced the nomination.
