Senators next week will get their long-awaited chance to grill President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Bureau of Land Management.
Energy and Natural Resources Chair Mike Lee (R-Utah) has set a confirmation hearing for Wednesday to consider Steve Pearce, whom Trump nominated for BLM director in November.
The confirmation hearing will also consider Kyle Haustveit, Trump’s pick for undersecretary of Energy, and David LaCerte, nominee to remain on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
But the marque name is Pearce — a former seven-term Republican congressman from New Mexico whose voting record aligning with the Trump administration’s energy dominance agenda has made him a target for criticism by some Democrats and conservation groups.
