Federal officials on Friday published a list of mining projects the Trump administration is angling to push through a streamlined permitting process — from critical minerals to coal and potash — despite some looming legal challenges.
The Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council listed 10 “transparency” projects, including contentious ventures like the Resolution Copper mine in Arizona, lithium projects in Nevada and an Alabama coal mine that Interior Secretary Doug Burgum visited last week.
The permitting agency — established with bipartisan support to help facilitate and expedite projects of national priority — said the White House’s new National Energy Dominance Council submitted the list in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order calling for more domestic mineral production.
“This is just the beginning — many more projects are expected to be added to the list on a rolling basis over the next few weeks,” the permitting office wrote in an online post.
