More than a dozen trade groups have formed a new coalition to lobby Congress on plastics recycling issues, while hiring a powerhouse firm to lead the push.
The reformation of the Recycling Leadership Council announced Thursday comes as the industry tries to pitch lawmakers on national recycling standards that would supersede stricter state policies.
“The RLC is united in support of policy frameworks that will unlock the investment and manufacturing innovation needed to modernize America’s aging recycling infrastructure to adequately handle the amount and types of plastic materials discarded today,” said John Hewitt, senior vice president at the Consumer Brands Association said in a news release.
The council, which is led by the Consumer Brands Association, first launched in 2020 under a similar mission: increasing U.S. recycling capabilities through bipartisan reforms. Back then, the group, which was also led by CBA, included the restaurant and beverage associations.
