ALBANY, New York — A major force in New York energy policy for more than a decade has left public service.
Richard Kauffman, who previously served as former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s “energy czar” and chaired the NYSERDA board for nearly 12 years, resigned from the state’s clean energy agency on March 12.
The authority “expresses its sincere gratitude to Richard Kauffman for his 12 years of leadership and service as Board Chair,” NYSERDA spokesperson Kate Muller said in a statement. “Richard was an integral member of our Board providing significant contributions to the Authority and the State’s clean energy transition.”
Kauffman has championed clean energy during his tenure, pushing the state to activate private sector investment in decarbonization technologies and seeking to export New York’s model more broadly.
