NV Energy is pausing work on sections of a highly anticipated Nevada transmission project over lingering concerns the high-tower power lines could interfere with Air Force training and weapons testing.
The utility said completion of the 470-mile Greenlink West project — a top priority of the Biden administration that was originally set for completion by the end of 2026 — is set for May 2027. The transmission line is projected to carry enough electricity generated mostly from solar projects to power more than 4 million homes.
The Bureau of Land Management, which approved the Las Vegas-to-Reno project in September 2024, is coordinating talks between NV Energy and the Department of Defense over concerns that sections of the line, some taller than 100 feet, could interfere with operations at Nellis Air Force Base.
“We are in a holding pattern until we can get clearance from the military,” Shahzad Lateef, NV Energy’s project director, told the Beatty Town Advisory Board two weeks ago, according to a recording of the meeting provided by the board.
