After an unexpectedly tight race, former Rep. Tom Malinowski conceded to progressive organizer Analilia Mejia in the special Democratic primary for New Jersey’s 11th District to succeed Gov. Mikie Sherrill.

Malinowski in a statement Tuesday morning congratulated Mejia — and issued a warning against the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, whose super PAC United Democracy Project spent more than $2 million against him in the closing stretch of the campaign.

Malinowski vowed to oppose any candidate the group “openly or surreptitiously” supports in the June primary for the full term and called on the Democratic Party to have “nothing to do” with the organization.
