The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved legislation Wednesday to repeal the Clinton-era roadless rule during a markup that highlighted persistent tensions between the panel’s leaders.
Although lawmakers also approved a slate of 13 bills on a voice vote, much of the hourlong markup focused instead on partisan divisions over what legislation Lee is scheduling for consideration.
Democrats have long accused the chair of blocking bills to conserve public lands and waters, despite bipartisan support for those measures. They have also said not enough popular bills are making their way to President Donald Trump.
“While I am always glad to see good legislation move through this committee, I am disappointed that we have yet another business meeting where we are considering zero conservation bills that are priorities for my members,” Heinrich said.
