The last of five offshore wind operators blocked by President Donald Trump has sued the administration, accusing the federal government of “unlawfully abusing” its authority and threatening the financial viability of the project.
The complaint from Vineyard Wind, filed Thursday in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, comes as the administration’s efforts to throttle the nascent renewable energy sector have faltered in the courts.
A federal judge earlier Thursday allowed an offshore wind project off the New York coastline to resume construction, days after a different federal judge issued a similar order allowing work on Revolution Wind, a project off the coast of Rhode Island, to start back up.
In the newest lawsuit, Vineyard Wind, a joint venture of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Avangrid Renewables, argued that the project is already 95 percent complete and partially operational, with the capacity to deliver 572 megawatts to the New England electric grid.
