For years, Michele Governatori, a nationally recognized energy specialist in Italy, had been a regular guest at his daughter’s high school, trying — and failing — to catch the interest of its distracted teen students.
Then he debated the Atomic Advocate. That made him a big deal.
The Atomic Advocate, or Luca Romano in real life, is an influencer digitally shaping a new generation of Italians with pro-nuclear views — a 180-degree switch from their parents and grandparents, who banned the power source not once but twice.
“Everyone in her class knew the Atomic Advocate,” said Governatori, who works at think tank Ecco. “My daughter started asking me why Italy isn’t investing in nuclear energy to fix the climate crisis.”
