The House is engaged in final debate on the Republicans’ tax cut, energy and border security megabill after securing enough votes for passage.
It took hours of pressure from leaders and the White House to secure support from a group of conservative and moderate holdouts. In the end, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania was the only Republican who voted against moving forward with the legislation.
The House began taking procedural votes at around noon Wednesday and didn’t launch debate in earnest until close to 4 a.m. Thursday.
“I’m sure there’s still ongoing conversations, but — the time for talking is over,” House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) said at one point in the night.
