The developments should collectively generate enough power for more than 400,000 homes.

LONDON — New Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has granted development consent to three major solar farms.

The three — Gate Burton in Lincolnshire, Mallard Pass in Lincolnshire and Rutland and Sunnica in Suffolk and Cambridgeshire — could collectively power more than 400,000 homes, according to developers.

The Low Carbon company, Gate Burton’s developers, welcomed Miliband’s decision — made one week after taking office — saying that it had unblocked “months of political indecision on key projects.”

“This provides a clear signal to investors and the supply chain that the government is serious about giving priority to energy projects in the planning system,” said Mike Rutgers, Low Carbon’s managing director of U.K. development.
