Nearly two dozen federal advisory committees — including some that inform management of national monuments across the West — will be renewed for another two-year period under an executive order released Monday by the White House.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order extending deadlines to September 2027 for groups authorized under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which offer advice and recommendations to various executive branch agencies.

The order, which is similar to one signed by former President Joe Biden in 2023, includes extensions for the advisory panels to Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments in Utah; Gold Butte and Avi Kwa Ame national monuments in Nevada; and Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni-Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument in Arizona.

The order also approves extension for advisory committees to both the Chuckwalla and Sáttítla Highlands national monuments in California, which is notable because the Trump administration asked the Justice Department earlier this year whether it could revoke authorization for both sites. Biden established those monuments before he left office in January.
