The House Natural Resources Committee approved pro-mining and public land bills Wednesday largely along party lines.
The markup included a back-and-forth over which party is most supportive of domestic production of critical minerals and blocking China.
The committee voted 26-16 to advance an amended version of Rep. Pete Stauber’s (R-Minn.) H.R. 4090, the “Critical Mineral Dominance Act,” which would codify certain provisions of President Donald Trump’s executive orders aimed at boosting domestic mining and processing of minerals.
Republicans defended Stauber’s bill and said it would expedite the approval of mining on federal land, as well as mapping and analysis of resources the U.S. currently relies on China to provide.
