The House Natural Resources Committee on Friday will hold a field hearing in Grand Teton National Park to discuss the reauthorization and reform of the Great American Outdoors Act.
That law, set to expire in September, sent $1.6 billion annually to the Legacy Restoration Fund for deferred maintenance needs. President Donald Trump signed it during his first term and cleared Congress with bipartisan support.
Despite the bill’s funding, the deferred maintenance backlog at America’s national parks and other public lands has continued to grow.
The hearing will “examine opportunities to reauthorize and reform the Great American Outdoors Act to enhance public access, improve infrastructure, and create new outdoor recreation opportunities at our national parks,” according to a committee notice.
