FERC Commissioner David Rosner hopes the regulator can reach a consensus on its landmark transmission rule aimed at ushering in a new wave of much-needed large power lines, he told clean energy groups Thursday.
Rosner, who joined FERC in June, said he’s been working closely with the other four commissioners to address the many challenges filed against the rule that takes a long-lens view on regional transmission planning in an effort to build bigger power lines more efficiently.
“What are some things that we can do to turn down … the political temperature that some people think this rule is taking, in ways that are directionally consistent with what that rule is trying to do?” Rosner said during a conference hosted by the American Council on Renewable Energy.
“We’ve got to find ways to build needed transmission, full stop. And so I’m hopeful that there are a number of things in that record that we can do that achieve those goals,” he added.
