The Senate will return from recess on Tuesday to vote on the nomination of Ho Nieh to serve on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Nieh was the only one of several energy and environment picks to get bipartisan support in the Environment and Public Works Committee during an October markup.
The Southern Co. executive and former NRC official received support from Democratic Sens. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Alex Padilla of California and Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, the committee’s ranking member.
Whitehouse has taken the lead in opposing increased involvement from the White House and the departments of Energy and Defense in NRC affairs.
