President Donald Trump is promoting acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to be the permanent leader of the Department of Justice, a move expected to further demolish federal enforcement and defense of the nation’s environmental laws.

Blanche, a personal lawyer for Trump who was confirmed last year to be DOJ’s second in command, has been serving as acting attorney general since the president ousted Pam Bondi in April.

“He’s acting attorney general,” Trump said of Blanche during a private event at the White House on Wednesday. “Tomorrow, I’m instructing Dan and everybody else that’s involved in that very complicated process, which is going to go I think very quickly, that we are going to make him permanent attorney general.”
